Ranger
Omnidirectional UGV platform built for outdoor autonomy and OEM integration
The Ranger is an omnidirectional unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) from AgileX Robotics, a Chinese manufacturer of research and industrial mobile robot platforms. It is a large-format, four-wheel-drive chassis with independent suspension, designed primarily as a development and OEM base for research, outdoor autonomy, and custom robot applications rather than a finished single-task product.
100 kg payload (150 kg with suspension)
4WD omnidirectional drive with four-wheel independent suspension
Max speed 2.6 m/s, ~8 h runtime
Hot-swap modular battery
Open-source SDK, ROS compatible, IP55
What it does
The Ranger moves omnidirectionally on a 4WD chassis with four-wheel independent suspension, carrying up to 100 kg as standard and 150 kg in its maximum configuration at speeds up to 2.6 m/s. It runs for roughly 8 hours and uses a hot-swap modular battery system to minimise downtime between shifts. Integrators control and extend it through an open-source SDK and ROS-compatible software over a standard CAN bus interface, while aluminum T-slot rails allow sensors, arms, and custom kits to be mounted directly to the platform.
Where it's used
AgileX positions the Ranger for industrial and research deployments including inspection, security, agriculture, energy, and warehouse operations, where its payload and all-terrain mobility are needed. Its IP55-rated shell, 10 cm obstacle clearance, and ability to climb slopes above 10 degrees under load suit mixed indoor and outdoor environments. As a development platform it is commonly used by labs, universities, and OEMs to prototype mobile manipulation, autonomous navigation, and sensor-mapping systems on top of a proven drive base.
Why operators choose it
Carries up to 150 kg, enough headroom to mount arms, sensors and custom payloads
Open-source SDK and ROS support shorten integration and time-to-prototype
Hot-swap modular battery keeps the platform working across shifts with minimal downtime
Omnidirectional 4WD drive and independent suspension handle tight, uneven outdoor sites
Standardised T-slot rails and an open CAN bus interface simplify OEM and secondary development
