ATG Autonomous Tugger

Driverless heavy-load tugger for fork-free lineside replenishment and long hauls

The ATG Autonomous Tugger is an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) built by Vecna Robotics, a US-based industrial automation company in Waltham, Massachusetts. It is a fork-free, self-driving tow tractor engineered for high-volume, heavy-load material transport. It is the highest-capacity robot in Vecna's fleet, designed for manufacturing plants and high-throughput distribution and sortation operations.

9,920 lbs (4,500 kg) maximum payload

6.0 mph (9.7 km/h) top speed

24/7 runtime via opportunistic charging

ANSI/ITSDF B56.5 and ISO 13849-1 PL=d safety compliant

Operates in aisles as narrow as 6 ft (1.8 m)

What it does

The ATG autonomously tows quadsteer carts to move heavy and non-conveyable loads of up to 9,920 lbs (4,500 kg) across a facility at up to 6.0 mph (9.7 km/h). It uses infrastructure-free autonomous navigation with dynamic path optimization, docks in narrow aisles down to a 6 ft minimum width, and can also be operated manually as a ride-on tiller-steered tractor. Opportunistic charging keeps it running around the clock, and fleets are coordinated through Vecna's Pivotal orchestration engine with WMS integration.

Where it's used

The ATG is deployed in lean and high-capacity manufacturing facilities, assembly lines, warehouses, and sortation hubs. Typical workflows include kanban replenishment and milk runs that deliver materials from storage to the line, work-in-progress moves between stations, and dock-to-dock cross-docking and sortation transport. Its fork-free design suits long-distance hauls of heavy pallets and materials that do not conform to conventional conveyor or forklift handling.

Why operators choose it

Moves up to 9,920 lbs per trip, replacing manual tugger and forklift runs

Fork-free design reduces lineside material-handling safety risk

Opportunistic charging enables continuous 24/7 operation

Infrastructure-free navigation deploys without facility retrofits

Available via Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) to lower upfront capital
