What it does
The K5 navigates autonomously at up to 3 mph (4.8 km/h) along geo-fenced patrol routes, using SLAM-based navigation with lidar and sonar sensors plus 360-degree cameras for full visual coverage with no blind spots. It runs real-time AI threat detection, captures HD and thermal video, and can read license plates for vehicle and parking monitoring. The robot deters and engages people in its zone via two-way intercom, text-to-speech announcements, and pre-recorded broadcasts, and it returns to its dock to recharge and resume patrol without staff involvement, sustaining continuous 24/7/365 coverage. All detections, alerts, and live video flow into the browser-based Knightscope Security Operations Center (KSOC) for remote monitoring and reporting.
Where it's used
Since its introduction, the K5 ASR has been deployed across corporate campuses, hospitals, schools, casinos, shopping centers, transportation hubs, and storage and logistics facilities. A 2025 navigation upgrade extended its reach to larger, more complex outdoor sites such as expansive parking lots, logistics centers, and auto-auction facilities, and an Ohio police department signed a two-year agreement as the first adopter of the upgraded model. It is typically delivered under a Machine-as-a-Service model that bundles the docking station, software updates, maintenance, and optional 24/7 monitoring.
